Dante at Sugarspoon

Dante is the epic poet and pilgrim. He transforms epic poetry and shows what the feminine fulfills in all epic poetry, in the words of Larry Allums:

"...the summons to the MASCULINE to obey the DIVINE imperative somehow imparted through the WOMAN to EMBRACE the QUEST."

DIDASKALOS hosts the last of a four-part workshop series that has investigated the nature of epic Poetry at Sugarspoon this Friday.

Writing Classes 2010

The largest obstacle to a student’s academic success stems from a lack of basic grammar. Without understanding the principles of language, students will begin to struggle with reading comprehension, critical thinking skills and writing.

This course will offer an intensive exposure to the fundamentals of grammar. For too many years, schools have ignored the importance of a well-constructed sentence. Our program seeks to fill this void with practice in the lost art of grammar.

We are experienced teachers with graduate degrees and 23 years of combined experience, who can attest to the fact that children without grammar skills suffer in the ability to think logically, read comprehensively, speak well, and write clearly.

This program seeks to inspire interest in the English language. If your child lacks appreciation of grammar, needs remediation, or would like to advance his or her skills, our program can meet that need. Our experience has given us the tools to be innovative and engaging in order to provoke interest in even the most disinterested student.

The classes, limited to 15 students per class, will be held from June 7th - June 24th. We will meet from Monday to Thursday for three consecutive weeks. All materials will be provided.

Through lively and enjoyable 90-minute daily classes, replete with practice exercises and diagnostic tests, your child will grow immeasurably under our attentive and supportive care. In order to build upon prior skills and place the student appropriately, your child will take a placement test on the first day to determine your child’s needs and current aptitude.

Give your child an edge for the rest of his or her life. Attend the Grammar Institute in 2010.

Classe de Espanol

Ambitious students are so wonderful! They are inspiring. In the face of the challenge to present what they have learned over the past nine months, a few of them picked up books and were relentless in the face of difficulties in reading in another language. "I want to do this," says a young student who picks up "Donde Viven Los Monstruos" - "Where the Wild Things Are." The plan is to show the parents at the fiesta that will be happening this week as the class comes to an end.

Lesson for the day: Learn how to say no. Sometimes it saves lots of heart aches.

NYC 2010

Opportunity knocks at unexpected times and in unexpected places. The latest teaching adventure that will be embarked on, will take place in New York City this June and July 2010 at the Erasmus Program. It is an opportunity for teenagers to experience the Liberal Arts - the "Life of the Mind in the Heart of the City." It is the hope of every teacher to be able to give the experience that students will have during these two weeks. It will be a pleasure to be involved because of the quality of the program, the excellent and highly skilled faculty and the friendships that will form that will last a life time - all of this in the BIG APPLE!
